Dubon Utility

Dubon is a junior foreign-exchange student from Honduras who suddenly appeared on the scene with an incredible year for the Cougars.

The scintillating shortstop not only flashes leather, but hits with the big boys. He led the area in runs batted in for most of the season and finished with 45, tied for second. Mauro’s .563 batting average placed fourth in the area, and his 1.085 slugging led the area.

In a marquee matchup at Raley Field against league rival Dixon, Dubon showed his versatility and power. He started the scoring with an RBI triple, hit a home run over the left field wall and also made two sensational plays at shortstop.

He and partner Ben Ritchey led the Cougars to a 23-3 regular season record and into the postseason. Coach Nelson Randolph is happy to know that Dubon will return for another season in 2013.

“Mauricio is so talented it's scary!” writes Randolph. “He is an incredible athlete: speed, power, throwing arm, baseball IQ, heart and what he brings to the team is overwhelming. If there is any kid that will go pro out of our program it could be him.”
