A four-year player for Coach Dan Ariola, Hatamiya was
the backbone of the Davis Blue Devils this year.
A converted catcher last year, Hatamiya started most of Davis’ games behind
the plate, when he wasn’t pitching. While teammate Ben Eckels attracted the scouts with his
92 mph fastball, George provided the quiet leadership that helped Davis become Delta Valley
“Offensively, he means a lot to this team,” Ariola says. “As my leadoff hitter
he runs well and has good power.” Hatamiya batted .349 and had a .473 on-base percentage,
lower than last year’s sterling season, but with good reason: his mother battled cancer this
past year and recently passed away just when Davis reached the playoffs.
Amazingly, out of 133 fielding chances, Hatamiya didn’t make one error all
season. The consummate backstop.
